Registration for the tours is possible on site at the Ruhr Tourism booth.
This short 25-kilometre gravel ride leads from the festival site through a beautiful wooded area past Herten Castle to the old village of Westerholt. The pretty half-timbered houses of the historic village center stand in noticeable contrast to the industrial culture typical of the Ruhr region, which comes back into focus just a few turns of the pedals later with the Schlägel & Eisen colliery. The asphalted railroad cycle path “Allee des Wandels” takes you quickly back to the Hoheward spoil tip, before the last few meters over the balcony terrace once again offer wide panoramic views.
A quick ride from the festival site to the immediate vicinity of the Ewald colliery and the Haniel slagheap.
Kay from @meinmtb takes you on this short but sweet beginner's tour.
On Saturday, Kay from @meinmtb will take you on this short beginner's tour to the Burg nature reserve near Marl. From the festival site, the route goes once around Recklinghausen.
It's mainly over dirt tracks and unexpected nature - the best gravel conditions for an introduction to this beautiful sport.
The route first takes you up to the beautiful balcony promenade of the Hoheward spoil tip and back through the new Aktiv Linear Park to the popular Emscher Weg.
The route heads north across wide fields to the old village of Westerholt with its beautiful half-timbered houses. On the way back, you can enjoy a relaxed ride along the Allee des Wandels.
Christoph takes you on this classic tour, which could hardly be more typical of the Ruhr region. You cycle through the beautiful nature of the Emscherbruch. The Grimberger Sichel, an unusual bridge construction over the Rhine-Herne Canal, is just as much a photo highlight as the fantastic colliery framework of the Consol colliery in Gelsenkirchen.
Before that, there is a view from the Pluto spoil tip. The ascent to the Hoppenbruch spoil tip is a little more sporty, before finishing with a relaxed cycle through the Aktiv Linear Park and around the Hoheward spoil tip.
This tour also focuses on the tourist highlights and is therefore primarily aimed at visitors to the festival from abroad. So less gravel, more vacation experience!
The tour is based on the popular RevierRoute “Probierstück” with an extra portion of railroad line cycling and the slagheap highlights of the Pluto slagheap, Rheinelbe slagheap and Schurenbach slagheap.
The third tourist cycle tour takes you to the impressive historic Henrichenburg ship lift, which is one of the most important industrial monuments in the region.
In addition to the many riverside paths along the Rhine-Herne Canal and the “König-Ludwig-Trasse” railroad line cycle path, the impressive “Sprung über die Emscher” bridge construction with the surrounding Emscherland and Stünkrede Castle in Herne make this tour a real vacation highlight.
Are you on the Gravel Ground with your family and want to take your children on a tour? Then the family tour with Petra is just the right tour tip. The route takes you along easy paths across the Ewald colliery site and through the Hoheward slag heap landscape. In addition to biking, there will also be plenty of time for fun breaks (hence the long riding time).
Christoph also offers this tour as a “normal” gravel ride on Saturday. On Sunday, however, the tour is aimed specifically at e-bikers.
So, off you go with a fully charged battery into the surrounding area of the festival site.
