Lavarone is located on the plateau of the same name at an altitude of around 1,200 metres and is one of the four municipalities that make up Alpe Cimbra. Its centrepiece is Lake Lavarone, a natural alpine lake that comes to life in summer with its lidos and water sports and turns into an ice rink for ice skating in winter.
A must-see for anyone staying in Lavarone is the Fort Belvedere Gschwent, which houses the Museum of the First World War. The Austro-Hungarian fortress, which was built to protect the border above the Val d'Astico, is one of the most important testimonies to the front line of the First World War.
Summer in Lavarone is an ideal destination for sport and relaxation. In the middle of the forests of the plateau lies Lake Lavarone, which is ideal for swimming and fishing. Sigmund Freud loved to go for walks here during his holidays. The "100 km dei Forti" route, which runs along the various fortifications of the First World War on the plateau, is recommended for bikers. For trekking enthusiasts, there are numerous themed and artistic trails such as the "Il Respiro degli Alberi" (Breath of the Trees) and the "Drago Vaia".
In winter, the snow transforms Lavarone into a paradise for skiers. The Lavarone Skiarea ski carousel offers a joint ski pass with Folgaria Ski. A skiing holiday with 100 km of slopes awaits you - full of surprises. Lavarone is also a well-known ski area for cross-country skiing in the Millegrobbe ski centre.
