SAN ZENONE DEGLI EZZELINI

San Zeno Degli Ezzelini

In the land of the Ezzelini - San Zenone is the cradle of the Da Romano family, also known as the "Ezzelini", a powerful medieval family linked to Emperor Frederick II. The bell tower from this period still stands today, having been rebuilt using some of the stones from the original castle. To celebrate this famous historical note, a beautiful re-enactment of the siege of the old village in 1260 is organised every year. The event offers an insight into medieval life with a craft market and military encampments, historical processions, flag-wavers, knights and ladies.

Today, the region around San Zenone degli Ezzelini is known for its beautiful cycle paths that lead past historic sites and marvellous views. A special natural spectacle is the San Daniele Oasis - a sensitive environmental protection area rich in biodiversity. The oasis is managed by an active group of volunteers who take care of its maintenance and utilise its potential with activities such as nature research, birdwatching, nature photography and guided tours for children and adults. There is also an equipped picnic area and the opportunity to experience a small barefoot sensory trail that recreates the materials that make up the terrain of Monte Grappa and its foothills.
